Major Water Main Break – Burbank, CA

Posted in FIRE PHOTOGRAPHY BLOG on January 23rd, 2010 by admin

On 1-23-10 at about 2pm a 12-inch water main ruptured beneath the intersection of Victory Blvd and Palm Ave in downtown Burbank. A major thoroughfare through town, Victory Blvd had to be closed for blocks as a 30 foot portion of the street collapsed into a pool of muddy water.  Vehicles parked along the street were partially submerged in the runoff and nearby businesses suffered minor flooding. As city resources joined Burbank Fire and Police crews on scene, the water source was finally shut off and large pumps went into action. The scene would be active for hours. Damage resulting from the break has not yet been estimated but repairs will be ongoing for days.

New Years Eve in South Central – Video

Posted in FIRE PHOTOGRAPHY BLOG on January 1st, 2010 by admin

As tradition would have it, some fellow fire photographers and I headed down to South Central LA on New Years Eve to cover any happenings. Aside from a good auto fire, several medical calls and a fatality garage fire no one could get to, it was a relatively quiet night. Oh, except for the celebratory gunfire.  A high quality version of this video is available on my YouTube Channel.

New Years Eve Auto Fire – LAFD

Posted in FIRE PHOTOGRAPHY BLOG on January 1st, 2010 by admin

The last fire of 2009 for your’s truly, this auto fire call came in around 2300 hrs. on New Years Eve, December 31, 2009.  Fellow fire photographers Jeff Zimmerman, Mike Meadows and I arrived on scene of a fully involved auto in the intersection of Figueroa and Century in South Central Los Angeles.  LAFD engine 64 soon arrived on scene and made short work of the job, complete with explosions.  No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was still unknown at the time of the incident.
